{"id":10309,"date":"2020-12-31T13:19:49","date_gmt":"2020-12-31T20:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=10309"},"modified":"2020-12-31T13:19:49","modified_gmt":"2020-12-31T20:19:49","slug":"reflections-on-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=10309","title":{"rendered":"Reflections on 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the time of year I look back at what happened the past 366 days (being a leap year), and most if it was not good, but some of it was, so this year I will start the post with all the bad stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Year started ominously enough, no fireworks, it was too windy, my wife said it was a bad omen.  Sure was.<\/li><li>There were massive fires in Australia<\/li><li>Ukrainian flight downed by missiles  <\/li><li>Coronavirus (This will have its own section) March 11, was a dark day.<\/li><li>Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna died in a helicopter crash<\/li><li>The impeachment of Trump<\/li><li>UK withdraws from EU<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and this was just January<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Corona Virus later named Covid 19 and nicknamed by some the CCP virus started a global pandemic<\/li><li>The pandemic caused the economy to tank<\/li><li>The NBA season was suspended<\/li><li>Olympics postponed<\/li><li>There was a deadly shooting in Canada, 22 people died<\/li><li>Don&#8217;t know if Kim Jong-Un leader of North Korea was still running the country<\/li><li>There were murder hornets in Washington<\/li><li>Two black men were killed in separate incidents, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floydd, and another incidient where a black women Breonna Taylor was shot in her home, ignited huge protests around the country during a pandemic.<\/li><li>Anarchists took advantage of the protests to begin rioting.<\/li><li>Some of them used the riots as cover to steal and loot from stores.<\/li><li>In all this my wife had a death in her Family and she could not attend due to the Pandemic.<\/li><li>Kids were told to stay home and do remote learning.  <\/li><li>My kids missed a bunch of milestones, Senior Prom, Graduation, Senior cut day. the last semester was gone.<\/li><li>A lot of annual traditions were gone too, none of these happened, Tulips Festival, Canada Night Market, LinuxFest, Santa Pictures, Halloween, Washington State Fair.<\/li><li>Sports were done, no track or cross country.<\/li><li>Although we had Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other Birthday parties, they were much smaller and limited just to our household.<\/li><li>No bike club trips<\/li><li>Then there is the story of my mom, which I will not go in to publicly<\/li><li>CentOS 8 had its life shortened.<\/li><li>My maker meetup was put on hold<\/li><li>There was a run on everything from Toilet paper, wipes, flour.<\/li><li>CRV got a dent<\/li><li>Started getting arthritis<\/li><li>In September there was some massive smoke, had to jury rig air filters.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Good<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there were some good, so 2020 was not all bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Got to work from home, while at home learned new technologies like BLE, AWS, grafana, and Containers<\/li><li>Three of my kids did graduate, and their ceremonies were unique.<\/li><li>My youngest son that is still in the public school system is actually doing well academically.<\/li><li>We replaced out nasty rug<\/li><li>Repaired our back deck.<\/li><li>Painted the house<\/li><li>Got our computers upgraded. (although ironically as I was posting here it crashed for the first time)<\/li><li>There will be a change in U.S. Presidency.<\/li><li>My wife actually made more at home through unemployment then at work.  <\/li><li>With my kids working, we are actually recovering quicker than most from this weird economy.<\/li><li>Stock market is up<\/li><li>Seahawks are doing good.<\/li><li>As I embraced CentOS 7, I saw CentOS 8, and was ready to begin exploring when there was an announcement by the CentOS team that they will terminate it early, so, I am stuck with CentOS 7.<\/li><li>A lot of new stuff, new bed, new fridge, new dog. new computers, new couches.<\/li><li>Decommed the MS SBS server we had<\/li><li>Did a video for Linuxfest<\/li><li>Saw a nutritionist for most of the year and got a personal trainer<\/li><li>New plex server as well<\/li><li>New File Server<\/li><li>Got an ATOM Pi<\/li><li>Upgraded out comcast connection<\/li><li>Upgraded Zoneminder<\/li><li>Got a new CPAP<\/li><li>My mom was here for the Holidays before the travel concerns kicked in.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was a lot bad events, but a lot of new things happened to us as well.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this is it goodbye 2020, your turn 2021.  Posting my new goals for 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did run 1\/2 mile of RTC today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ended last year at 295.0, so this year was a net gain of 24lbs.
