So will recap here.

In the morning I read a reddit post about misconfigured routers which is why my DNS queries were not going to my DNS servers on the internet.

So I tried something on my Comcast modem and it broke my Internet connection.

I tried to configure my firewall to match but it was to no avail.

So I tried to revert back. In the process I learned a bit about the pfSense. There are two places to change the default gateway, and the command line to check routing is netstat -rn

So right off the back two network items go bad.

Later that evening, before my walk, I try to put in monitoring using the omada controller software. Something happened and it did not like it. My switch went bonkers. I suspect a too long password.

This is where the real fun started. I could not use my work laptop to restore my settings because it blue screened.

So there was a comedy of things where I asked him to pull the plug while I RDP to a headless PC connected and had him reboot the switch. I was able to reset to factory while watching the serial console via RDP.

But that in itself was a challenge, because there were no free ethernet ports on any of the working switches. Save the management ethernet on the 10G switch.

I asked my son to use his laptop, but he had no ethernet, my USB ethernet didn’t work on his laptop either. So we had to fish out mine which I was using in the server room.

Once I got the laptop on, IP’d to 192.168.0.99 I was able to web into 192.168.0.1 with the default username/password of admin/admin

With a browser connection I was able to upload backup config to the switch.

Anyway that was the recap.

Today was more uneventful, had a final long lunch with my boss Joe, got him a Red Hat and Red Tape as a gag gift, but the real gift was an apple watch.

Tomorrow is his last official day.

Will be a sad one.

It is 8:45 as I post, it took me 2 hours yesterday to get to 10k steps, today I am going to go a little slower. Today is more of a relax walk.

If I don’t make 10k I will return and edit this post. Otherwise I did it.

Weight: 348.2

It was really wild yesterday, things happened so late I did not get to put out a good post.
