{"id":13292,"date":"2024-03-13T23:37:09","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T06:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=13292"},"modified":"2024-03-13T23:37:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T06:37:09","slug":"comcast-went-down-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=13292","title":{"rendered":"Comcast Went Down Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At about midnight last night (a little past), Comcast went down again.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I successfully switched to my mobile hotspot via ddwrt router and was able to get some internet functionality back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By coincidence this device came in today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gsmusbmodem.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"557\" src=\"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gsmusbmodem.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gsmusbmodem.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gsmusbmodem-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gsmusbmodem-768x418.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">GSM USB Modem<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It goes under the name KuWFi 4G LTE USB WiFi Modem Mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you plug it in, it gives you an RFC 1918 IP address (you can configure this)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From there you can connect to the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does appear as an ethernet device in Windows.  I am going to try this with Linux, but  online reviews said after a while it reverts to a &#8220;modeswitch to a GSM modem&#8221;.  I vaguely recall what that is, but I am going to do more research on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those researching, I basically got a t-mobile SIM, activated it using a normal smart phone (in my case a Pixel Pro 7) then moved the SIM into the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SIM actually goes into the USB portion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when you get it plugged in like I said you get an IP address via DHCP, the default gateway is the device and you can connect to it with a browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the browser you can send and receive SMS messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will see though, I am going to connect my Linux box to it and see how it behaves for a few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weight:  345.0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At about midnight last night (a little past), Comcast went down again.
