I have previously used desktop hard drives but these drives pcitured above are specifically meant for NAS. \u00a0It has TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery) and higher MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure).<\/p>\n
I looked up NAS devices and saw that a lot of the higher end ones had about 100 MB\/s Read\/Write performance on RAID 10 drives.<\/p>\n
http:\/\/www.smallnetbuilder.com\/nas\/nas-charts\/view<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n So I was curious what my system had which is a Whitebox Linux with RAID10.<\/p>\n I found this tool<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.808.dk\/?code-csharp-nas-performance<\/a><\/p>\n And I tried it out, I was pretty floored<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It was some crappy performance with 34 MB\/s Write and 60MB\/s Read<\/p>\n I changed the config from<\/p>\n to<\/p>\n And it was much better<\/p>\n Not sure how accurate those numbers are but I feel better.<\/p>\n My new drives are slower though, but the slow speeds reduce vibration, the old drives are 750GB 7200RPM drives, the new ones are 1TB 5400RPM drives.<\/p>\n So hope it can keep up the 100MB\/s performance.<\/p>\n Was a long day, had a LOT to do, was hoping to work out, but only can find time to do some pushups and situps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Finally, getting NAS drives for my file server.
