{"id":5845,"date":"2016-02-21T19:53:22","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T02:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=5845"},"modified":"2016-02-21T19:53:22","modified_gmt":"2016-02-22T02:53:22","slug":"thinking-about-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apolonio.com\/blog\/?p=5845","title":{"rendered":"Thinking About Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I consider myself pretty advanced in technology, but I think that my knowledge of how bad things are, kind of holds me back in embracing new tech due to security.<\/p>\n<p>I been thinking of couple things.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The reason I did not go to AWS sooner is that I am not comfortable with someone else controlling my servers. \u00a0Also I keep thinking to myself, these instances I spin off are based on templates build by others, do I trust those template.<\/li>\n<li>The other thing is banking by phone, back in the late 90s I did support for PC home backing, back then I was more comfortable banking with an old school modem, than going through the Internet. \u00a0The Internet has evolved and is larger, but weird its not that I trust the Internet more, its that I trust a POTS line much less. \u00a0Now I think about what malware is running on my phone. \u00a0A lot of apps and stuff ask for permissions that they don&#8217;t need.<\/li>\n<li>Finally making my home smart. \u00a0I have cameras and sensors around the house, I know that stuff talks over the Internet in an unsecured manner, my solution, don&#8217;t let them talk on the Internet. \u00a0So now it is no longer an Internet of Thing, rather something on my home network. \u00a0But I am able to get to it via VPN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One thing that I should always remember, things are always evolving, and the real solution is to remain vigilant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I consider myself pretty advanced in technology, but I think that my knowledge of how bad things are, kind of holds me back in embracing new tech due to security.
