Ran Out of Filament

Yesterday it was printers printing away, today it is ran out of filament.

To be clear, I ran out of grey filament on the P1S and black filament on the ender v3 pro.

Furthermore, I noticed the white running low on the P1S as well.

Need a break anyway.

Also today is valentines, yesterday I printed her a heart case with text. First multicolor.

Printers Cranking Away

Got both printers cranking away making bins for my new gridfinity system.

I got all the base plates done for my drawers, now focused on getting different bins to try out.

Then I will be more selective of the bins I make.

Wanting To Know Why

Today I got the other SMS gateway working, the frustrating thing is I do not know why it worked. There is an innate need for me to understand what is going on.

The command that made it work was

qmicli -d /dev/cdc-wdm0 -p --wds-modify-profile="3gpp,1,apn=,pdp-type=ipv4v6"

Now it could be something else I did that was right, I wasn’t methodical with my approach.

Also discovered a new WWAN tool called mmcli or ModemManager, it has a component to troubleshoot the device and send SMS messages. Different chip though, the other one is a SIM7670G this new one is a Sierra Wireless EM7455B.

Also subscribed to Tello, SIM should be coming in next week. No sign up costs (but you have to buy a SIM) and no termination fee. “Out the door” was a little more than $10, monthly it will be another $5 + taxes.

Contrast that with the 3D printer, the firewall was not sending the SSDP packets, I found a tool that does it for you, so you can trick your device into seeing the printer. I wiresharked it and saw what was going on.

I got both printers making gridfinity models. It is amazing how much faster the Bambu is though. It just works.

Gridfinity

True to my plans, I started my gridfinity organization plans. I even conscripted my old Ender 3 to print stuff for this project.

I don’t have a pic but I decided to go to simpler versions.

Both my printers will be busy.

Huge Progress On Bambu

Finally was able to print my own stuff. It is a gridfinity base.

After I printed it, I added the magnets, as I post the 4th one is printing.

This was from the SD card though, I sliced it in Orca, then copied it to the SD card. I had to choose the filament from the AMS.

I then put it on the network and upgraded the firmware (yes I did, still LAN OK) and I was able to access it from the LAN.

Had trouble crossing subnets though, but I but of googling and I had to setup the UDP Broadcast Relay on pfsense.

Here is how it looks.

Thanks to this blog post https://nuxx.net/blog/2024/12/19/bambu-lab-p1s-on-iot-vlan/

I am almost there, after it prints I going to add 3 more filament spools.

Was ok game, something to watch while I clean up my office.

Slept in, needed it. Did not do much, next week is a 3-day weekend, big plans.

Will prep for that.

Weird, Got A Lot Done

I woke up late today, but still a lot got done.

Snowman is 90% done, to be fair my daughter’s boyfriend did it, wife thing it looks great

Need Arms Lit

More lights are incoming tomorrow.

Next is the 3D printer, I started yesterday, got most of it late last night, Bambu made it easy.

New 3D Printer Bambu P1S

For reference, this was nearly 4 years ago

From Feb 23 2021

Benchy printed quick

The 3D enclosure is done, it looks great, waiting on black screws to make it clean but it is done otherwise

Note that that another imperfect case is driving the snowman. This is leading to the 2025 Christmas show.

Unfortunately the SMS gateway is still a problem. Not an antenna problem.

Excited for tomorrow.

Getting Printer Up

Going to stay up tonight and work on getting my new 3D printer up.

It is in its location, which is, where the old 3D printer started its life.

I need to watch some setup videos though.

Unboxed New Printer

I got a spot ready for my 3D printer. Just cleaning it up making way to be able to work on it this weekend.

I am hoping a benchy will be printer on Saturday.

Couple project updates, and some new ones

  • The lastman project is not stopped but in a stage where I am making sure SMS is reliable.
  • I have a dependancy on the 3D printer, so a lot of things I am making is slowed down a lot, like the Gen 4 message box. The plus is done, but need just a Gen 4 built. The hold up is the 3D printer.
  • Parts have been resourced for the SMS Gammu documentation
  • Snowman is getting a printed case, it is printing as I post, hoping this weekend it will be done.
  • Due to space constraints, I may move up the new zoneminder build. Yes I have committed to zoneminder.
  • Another project I am taking on is a 4-relay video
  • There is a shift though, I am thinking of going deep in this gridfinity stuff. I think that should improve my workflow and that is what the new bambu will be tasked to do.

Documenting Gammu

I ordered extra gear to see if I can replicate the gammu setup on x86 mini pc.

Found a new service, may test it out, called “Tello” which is an mvno on t-mobiles network.

Started clearing up my workspace for the new 3D printer, did not have time to set it up today.

Also 3d printed my first print using “tree” support, looks nice, also learned how to remove some supports.
