Alarm Box Done

I had this for a while now, not functional.

Note the raspberry pi, it had a relay connected to it with an Arduino Nano.

I just went straight ESP8266, ESP-01 no less

It works, can go in to production immediately.

Hit the gym, did 30 min cardio.

Ongoing Electronics Projects

Couple of the little electronic things I am working on

Got some lights ESP relay, my message box dev unit is coming together, and a new way to boot off of an iso.

Gonna be fun, but this is a week of real work. Going to get a taste of a relatively normal schedule.

Back to ESP-01

Got some relays today and need to program some ESP-01 for it

Need to make sure your orient the ESP-01 correctly.

Anyway it works.

Couple other notable maker things, I started 3D printing a development case for my GEN4 message board.

Christmas decorations are down as well.

Just pushups and situps.

New Normal Routine

With the new year firmly here, I can fall into a routine.

On the first, I rested, I needed it.

Yesterday, I did rest, but got 5k steps.

Today I was on the treadmill for a 30 minute, 3MPH, 2 incline. That give me nearly 7k steps.

Today was a work day and I found some time to do stuff after work and hit the gym.

On an interesting note, my niece and nephew are showing interest in Arduino.

Starting Workout Next Week

I really want to rest and start my workouts next week when my week is a normal week.

Feel like I am making excuses but I do need rest but even more rest is a “reset” from last year.

That is the body, I have been doing arduino coding again. This will be my major IOT project of 2025.

I got most of the electrical modules wired up the way I want it, but now I need to work the mouting. It is pretty gnarly just laying weird on my desk.

Happy New Year 2025

Last nights New Years Eve celebration was definitely subdued. We weren’t excited as before, I tried to be, but I had 1 sick, two had to work, and a teenage boy interested in doing other stuff.

Got up at 7:15 and left at 7:45 and did the traditional photo shoot. This time did both DSLR and phone.

This time I was not alone, my son was with me.

No polar plunge this year. When we got home at about 8:15 or 8:30, I went to bed.

Technically we are still in the year of the dragon, it ends on January 29th, and I am looking forward to the year of the snake. From the Internet

I talked to my sister a bit, and I think this year, financially things gonna get better.

Another interesting thing is it was weird not getting my 10k steps. I know I needed rest, I got it. Doing some simple pushups and situps of old, but my body needs rest. After a year of steps, not doing anything hard was… uncomfortable.

I did get a bit or ESP32 stuff going. no public pics to show, more later.

Technically I am lighter then last year.

Reflections On 2024

The first half of the year was promising, all of my kids are adults now and my youngest graduated from high school. Proud of my youngest because he trained so hard for track and made it to districts, and that team won districts for the first time in over a decade. I think it was 2011 they last won districts.

Before I reflect, I want to note that I did accomplish my goal of 10k steps and 10 floors each day and I did not miss a single day.

Anyway lets recap.

The Bad

  • Son got Injured – this was the biggest tragedy, although there were some pretty close runner ups
  • Got hacked at work
  • Step dad passed away
  • Daughter broke up with her long time boyfriend
  • Got Covid
  • Other Daughter’s boyfriend got his vehicle stolen… twice.
  • Got some sore throat that may be something worse.
  • Wasted money on a Qotom firewall
  • Dog was injured in January but recovered ok
  • Tried to implement Omada controller, broke a lot of stuff
  • Seahawks eliminated from playoffs before last game
  • Got a case of vertigo
  • Power outage for multiple hours nearly three weeks in a row, but this outage prompted us to prepare by getting a trio of Power stations.
  • Youngest decided to go to PLU Bad in that he will be moving out and it is expensive

The Good

  • Kids graduated, one from High School and that same kid got an Associates
  • Other kid got a bachelors, three down 1 to go
  • Accomplished my 10k steps and 10 floors.
  • Got the meetups going at least for a few months, made my goal
  • 49ers lost the Superbowl, I did not record it (my bad) but someone provided it for me and I got to see my old high school coach on TV
  • Got a Windows 11 Laptop, that was a goal
  • Got a nice trip to Hawaii
  • Got a Samsung S24 Ultra and Yubikeys
  • Youngest decided to go to PLU Good in that he made it to a 4 year college
  • Upgraded to Rocky 9 for most of all my EL systems (only Zoneminder not updated)
  • Ran a parkrun, another completed goal
  • Started swimming and cutting sugar, found the key to weight loss
  • Redid our bedroom floor which helped reduce dust.

The year of the dragon was not kind to us.

Here is the weight to beat next year.

Gen 4 of MessageBox

Been working at this for years now. Looking back, it seems like the very first one is the neatest one.

But this latest one will have the benefit of a 3D printer.

I am still working on if it will be an ESP32 or the older ESP8266.

Countdown Started

For end of year at least for me. Kind of hate that the 1st is on a Wednesday.

I did get a bunch of things done, rebuilt my Linux desktop, figured out some coding with my messenger box project.

Also got a nice chunk of archives done.

Bring On End Of Year

The second half of 2024 sucked, also the Seahawks pretty much are out of contention, bring on 2025 already.

We all need a reset and I would add I need a rest. Just 3 more days of 10k steps. It is in reaching distance.
