Another wind storm, that time of the year, one of my UPS was just dying, I need to start recording the times to replace the battery.
Luckily I had a smaller one available to use while the battery was incoming. I may get another spare.
Hopefully will make it through the wind till we can get a replacement battery.

Lost a drive that had data that I did not have a full backup. It sucks but the data was not critical.
There were couple lessons learned, first off the root cause, I think a fan died, I have not opened it up yet, but a fan heated up the drives causing them do fail.
So I have figured out how to monitor the drive temps. I am using a utility called hddtemp. It produces nice simple info on drive temps, but in addition it has a daemon which a nagios plugin can communicate with to produce an alert if temps go to high.
Furthermore, I set up smartd to let me know if a drive is failing as well.
Another thing I wanted to know was what were on those drives exactly, so I used find to walk through those drives and produce info using file and stat.
I did replace the drive and I am watching temps. I have a large fan cooling the system down for now.
The temp at 9:57PM was 59C for one drive after the fan was on it for about 15 minutes the temp dropped to 42C. I have it checking if temps go above 35 to warn and 48 for critical.
Lets see if temps stay down.

But those are beginning to add, up, a little bit of training with son, I little bit or programming, a little bit of cleaning up, next thing you know it is nearly midnight.
Tomorrow I will stop and do a little bit of goal setting, getting close to end of the year.

Didn’t have that many people come in today. It was fun for the few that did though. Wife didn’t realize how convenient it is to just watch them come in via our cameras.
But the interesting issue is that it is the last day of the month.
So, only 2 months left in the year.

A pretty unproductive day, just stayed home and watched TV, in bed.
So I really was lazy today, didn’t even code.
I needed some down time.

My son’s team placed 8 today and they needed to be 5th.
Still happy for him though, the sudden end of a good season.
I saw him grow so much in the past year. I am a proud dad.
Got less than 2000 steps left, I think I can make it. First Fitbit completion in weeks.
If I don’t make it will edit this post, got 80 minutes to get there.

Got a big day tomorrow, did hills today and was pretty good.
Also got a lot of cool stuff done today, upgraded my work vsphere to 7.0, did a bit of work on my network.
Finished the night off watching McFarland USA to motivate my son tomorrow.
By this time tomorrow we will know if he is going to State.

So I was going to build this ESXi host but it looked like the motherboard I wanted was selling out quickly, so I picked one up.
Lucky I did looks like they were selling out and today I checked they were sold out.
No Fomo for me.
Good news is that the machine installs ESXi 7 just fine. Now I would like to get an HBA working.
All the cables worked, so happy with that.
But CPU heatsink didnt fit, I ordered a pair of new ones, they cost $25.00
Also I needed two sticks of RAM for both CPUs, so four all together, I only had two sticks so I only could get 1 CPU up and just 1 SLOT became available.
It does work, so I have time now. No RMA needed.
I walked today, got my floors outside, halfway, 6k steps.

Or I can be that guy that figures out how to install it on rocky.
