Well Paced Day

I did a lot today

  • First off had a decent sleep.
  • I got up and was able to get ready.
  • I decided to do my first meeting from home. While waiting for the meeting I paid some bills off a did some pre Friday finance work.
  • After the meeting I went in to work. Got coffee with a coworker.
  • Visited a friend leaving for Hawaii for about 1/2 an hour.
  • Did some work with coffee coworker.
  • Did some server room recon.
  • Found out I was getting a raise
  • Went to renew my badge
  • Got me steps done before 3PM
  • Went to repc after work, do get some GBIC, got inside track on HP 1L box.
  • Went home and did more work. Patching computers.
  • Played with my firewall.
  • Posted Here

Firewall Does Firewall

After work I played with my new firewall a bit more.

Here is a pic

Couple initial things, Linux doesn’t recognize the SFP and SFP+ NIC, I knew that before I purchased it though. It is confirmed that Rocky 9 does not recognize it.

I was disappointed the labels were wrong, looks like they made it seem like all or just the bottom were SFP+ ports, it is just the ones at the end, more on that in a later post.

pfSense 2.7.2 loaded right up, no issues.

The nice thing about getting this early is I can post more stuff on it.

It wasn’t cold but it was wet.

But I pushed and got my 10K steps.

Power did a bit of fluctuation today, but UPS did right.

Messing Around With New Toy

Had a late walk today because a new toy came in today that will be my new firewall.

This will be my new firewall, I expected it to come in Late January or early February so I am not prepared to use this.

In the interim I am running some cables on the floor to test it out.

Had a late night walk, which was pretty good because I finished.

A little tired but I got it done.

Mostly Done

Recall Friday I mentioned I have a list of things to do.

I got all of them done for the most part.

  • Change Office Light (Done)
  • Replace UPS batteries (Done)
  • Finish Presentation Lab(Hardware Done)
  • Clean/Reorg Office(Pretty good not great)
  • Bring XMAS Tree Downstairs/Shed (Done)
  • Start Configuring New Switch (Done)

Feeling satisfied with where I am at.

I think this is going to be a busy week at work though.

Office Reconfigure

Looks like an office reconfigure needs to happen every once and a while. I think I need to consider what I am going to be doing, is it programming, maker stuff, videos, PC repair etc and reconfigure office needed.

I am going to reconfigure my office to support the home server maker meetups.

Thought I would get more done but I spend a huge chunk of the day packaging up tangled cables.

Going to do some work tonight to clean up office.

Still cold, but looks like it is going to warm up

Going to get a big chunk done before I go to bed, hoping tomorrow will be clear enough to drive around.

I got most of my steps done this morning, but I let time slip by a little to quick, ended up walking in the dark to get an additional 2k steps.

Its Really Cold

I think today will be the coldest day in the next stretch of a few days.

Cold Stretch

At least it was dry on the streets and sidewalks.

Still ice and hail left from a few days, but it is still a good grip.

Got my steps done early but there were literally signs showing it has freezing.

Was able to get my steps done early, it is 5:24PM and I am done with my steps and floors.

Going to take a nap and defrost for a bit before continuing my work.

I did go to bed late last night, not intentionally. I accidentally disconnected some hard drives from a VM that had them in MDM raid. Forced reassembly and immediately did a back up.

Start of Three Day Weekend

We just got out of the holidays and we have another day off, MLK day.

Got a moderate list of things to do. Will report back on Monday if I get them all done.

Test of Commitment

Today there was some horrible weather. I heard hail but it went away, it did not seem so bad.

Seemed Clear

Had to work a bit more but then started my walk, and about 3/4 in it started to hail hard

I don’t have more pictures but I was determined to get more steps., I think after this I was at 6 or 7k

I walked on the Lindbergh High School between my son’s swimming events. It was slippery.

After my son was done while they were cleaning up I walked around the parking lot, got to 9500 steps. It was dark.

So in the dark, cold slippery, not stopping me.

But today definitely was a “test your commitment” day.

Snow Coming… Maybe

Had the family fill up vehicles with gas, and we stocked up on food supplies. Treating it like a minor snowmageddon.

But weather reports say otherwise, it does not look like it is going to snow at all.

Waiting for the late night news to see what is up.

Either way we are prepared.

In other news, head coach of the Seahawks Pete Caroll was demoted today. A changed was needed.

Got my steps done today in the cold and in the dark.

Brr Cold

Did my walk today in the cold. Big mistake, came home and got a nice chunk wearing something that the wind would not blow through.

Pine cones all over the road again.

Speaking of wind, it has been cutting power and turning off my secondary server. I had to restart my ESXi host and its associated VMs.

I have a UPS, but I think the batteries are dead. I ordered batters and am going to do a pull test.
