Installing DVR System

So after being broken in to last week, I have taken some precautions.  I will not say what they all are but I will mention one of them, it is a Closed Circuit TV system.

This may not be the final system (odds are it is not) but since I was getting a new camera system, I wanted to see how a Linux based system would perform.

So in today’s post I will tell you what I got for my testing…

DVRParts

DVR CCTV parts

BTW, for those concerned I am giving away too much info over the Internet, there are several new precautions I took, not just a Camera, and also there will be more than one, probably more than 4.

Anyway I got a Swann Pro-555 camera and a Lorex QLR-460, both out the door came to about $180, with a $20 mail in rebate.  I certainly could have purchased a full system from Costco and do this little project… but that’s no fun.

The base OS I used was CentOS 5.4 (5.5 is the most current) and the software I used is called zoneminder.  I learned the hard way that it requires a special compile of ffmpeg, or else the streaming video will not work.

This all went into an older P4 w/ 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive.  Just to test.

More tomorrow….

As for my workout, been a busy day, it is still a work day, I ran 1 lap cause I was pretty busy

Time: 12:00:51

I will probably catch the bus to work tomorrow.  So I need to get up early.

Weight: 245.6
