My Main Plex Server

Wanted to post how my Plex network at home is set up.

Couple months ago I started building my new plex server, this will be the central media server on my network. Here are the specs

  • CPU Intel Core i3-8100
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • Asrock B365 Pro4

But the big attribute of this plex server is the case, it is a a SilverStone Tech SST-CS308B-USA, what makes this case ideal for me is that it can hold eight 3.5″ drives. In addition, there are 2 external half height bays. So I can add an optical drive and a 4 x 2.5″ drive bays.

The optical drive and the 2.5″ drives will come from the motherboard. The 3.5″ drives are from a perc H310 controller flashed in to IT mode. All eight drives.

I have a 250GB M.2 drive on the motherboard which disabled one of the six onboard SATA drives.

The OS is CentOS 7 64bit.

  • In addition there are two HVR-2200 Dual Capture cards for a total of 4 simultaneous TV recordings.
  • Second Intel Gig Ethernet

Unfortunately, with the addition of the H310 perc card I will unable to add a video card for video processing, so the i3 with quicksync has to do.

But all is not lost, an I5 on the same network can transcode more streams as well.

Weight: 314.2
