Chip Timed 5k

It was fun, but brutal, my time was horrible but the weather was a huge factor.

Ran the K9 Candy Cane run today

Weather was cold and it came down a bit on us.

Pretty scary

I could have hurt myself, there was the option of not going the whole way, but I am stubborn that way.

I finished, got home and rested.

After a nice nap I woke up and watched the Seahawks beat the LA Rams in LA, and also finished the main components of my new backup server.

Still got a few more steps to go, but I am going to mark this one as done.

Another good thing is my weight is under 320 again, this was before the race as well, but I want the weight after the race.

New Backup Server

Finally putting together a new backup server.

Got out the case and started preparing it, it is a Fractal Node 804 case, missing a part though, I think I can retrofit something though. Gonna be a little janky if I have to though. Emailed the company to see if they got anything.

Looks like I can fit two 2.5″ drives in the front, maybe even I third if I can get a mount to work with the slimline drive. I kind of want to put one in just to put one in.

Two 3.5″ drives can go on the bottom on the side where the motherboard is 8 3.5″ drives on the other side for a total of 10 3.5″ drives.

Can’t forget about the nvme and USB 3 ports to top it off.

A lot of storage.

Putting Pieces Together

Got a lot of things to work with now to finally stabilize network

  • RAM for a full 256GB ESXi host
  • Hard drive for ESXi host
  • Parts for new backup server
  • UPS to deploy
  • New core switch

Office is crowded, still got decorations to put up tomorrow.

Network Upgrades Coming Along

Lets see what I got so far

  • New ESXi host
  • New 10G network
  • New Wifi
  • New Cameras/NVR
  • New backups (soon)
  • New fileservers (soon)
  • New OS (Rocky 9)

Everything is coming along.

Going to have to make things a little bit cleaner.

Found a large supermicro I think I can use as a NAS.

I really like being home, with a hot water dispenser, Internet, a supply of snacks, feels cozy.

Kind of interesting, but frustrating at the same time, there are some huge gaps on how urbackup works.

I read some documetation, but looks like will need to dive deeper.

Rethinking My Backups

Got some decent work on a backup system called urbackup. I installed it on Rocky 9. Preparing to go that route in 2023.

Also got LDAP working, some pretty big changes afoot.

Still researching options, but liking what is possible.

Speaking of big, weight is up there, tomorrow I will probably crack 320 for the third day in a row making it official.

I think it is inevitable. Part of it was Thanksgiving, another was some salty soup during the cold weather.

Yardwork Pain

Now I know I been slacking, I did some yardwork today, now I am in pain.

Maybe I should get back in to the gym.

Got some discovery done on my network as well. On my production I found 20 of what I would consider servers, not all of them are critical though, and in the near future I am going to

Black Friday 2022

Not gonna mention some of the things I got, kids may be reading this, don’t want to spoil Christmas.

But stuff for me and the network, it seems like storage is the name of the game.

Looks like I got everything I need start me new vault server.

Also started toying with Rocky 9, as I post, I am downloading Rocky 9.1 and 9.x is the version I am moving forward with for most of 202x’s

Also got LDAP working on 8, so will figure it out with 9.
