Upgraded IoT Server

Upgraded the second to the last server on my list of machines to be upgraded.

The huge issue was that it had some custom python scripts.

I got it working and it is done.

Going to look at working on cloud machines now.

IOT Server Cutover

Tomorrow is going to be a big one, I am cutting over one of my IOT servers from stage to production.

Kind of late and don’t want to do it now, but it is ready.

Pretty sure things will break too.

Going to be a long day.

Looking At Going Production

A lot of my code works now and it is documented and easier to manage.

So I am looking to build the new server this weekend.

Going to stop code development and move into production.

HTML Mail with Python

Figured out how to send HTML email with embedded images via python.

The intent is when there is an event, I can put the camera monitors from zoneminder into the function and have it generate and send an email.

Also created a new category, coding. For any coding stuff I learn.

Learning More Python

Getting into python more, learned about variables and immutable.

This script has come a long way. I would say it is nearly production ready.

I looked at the scope I set out and I think I have met most of them. I also introduced security levels.

We will see how this goes.

Molokai Trip Recap

Now that I am home, I can post a bit more.

On Thursday, the trip was from all the way from Seattle to Molokai. I wanted to be at the airport three hours early, but I was 1 hour off in my schedule. So a lesson learned was confirm the time.

Still, the security line was quick, so low stress there. Also precheck and carry on only helped.

On the Seattle to Kahalui leg I had no one next time me, also I barely got the seatbelt on, need to lose weight. Wore shorts but on the plane it got cold. Also having a sweater with a lot of pockets helped, was able to have my phone, snacks, a charger, ticket, wallet etc on me.

My sister was in a different section of the plane, but when we got to Maui, she and her husband rented a car and we had lunch. Another lesson was we had enough time for lunch, we left at 10:20 Seattle time but arrived at 1:30PM Hawaii Time, so there was enough time to get the car and eat at Zippy’s.

After lunch she want shopping but I headed to Molokai on a 4:10 flight.

Seat belt was even longer on these small planes than the one in the big jet.

When I landed there was no one to pick me up so I sent a message to a group chat hoping someone could pick me up. My aunt came by and got me, but it was too late to buy water for my CPAP, so I slept dry. So another lessons learned is to get contact info for people that can pick me up.

Pascua store was open, so I was able to get some snacks for food.

Next morning I woke up and the reality of how bad the home was hit me. There was a lot of work to be done and there was not much time to do it. It was overwhelming, no pics here but I will post a nice pic of flowers outside.

Plumeria Tree

We did start cleaning up but I was burned out a bit, we also opened up a bank account at the local branch to make it easier to manage my funds.

Not much to say otherwise on the first full day, but banking and cleaning.

We did clean under the house and I found my old brochure when I used to do business.

Old Brochure

Next day, Saturday we did more cleaning and repairs, I found my old Army gear which was in decent shape. I packed it up to bring back to Seattle.

Later that day I visited my cousin Donny and that night got some Molokai Hot Bread

Molokai Hot Bread

There was a line, I recall when going here felt like a drug deal and you rapped on a door to ask your order. Also things were much cheaper then, like a loaf was $2 or $3

Next day Sunday I packed up all my stuff and headed for Maui. My flight to Seattle was on Monday, but I was warned to go early because I shouldn’t risk missing my flight to Seattle.

I still made my flight, but because it was not delayed, and I got a chance to meet up with some friends.

North Maui I think

The last day I had some time in the morning to do stuff. My flight was at 3:10PM, and Maui during this time of the year was not a problem. But I did want to make it back by 12:30PM, fitting we had lunch one last time on Maui at Zippy’s.

Seattle Homecoming

Years ago I came home to Molokai after finishing my stint in the HIARNG, now I return to my other home in Washington with the same bag.

On the plane ride home, I thought I had covid, but I am good, just feeling sick. As the day wore on started feeling better.

Didn’t test my fitbit charger so I needed my watch to last, had to conserve battery a bit, so one more lesson learned, bring a good charger.

One final note, it was a struggle coming home, but I was still able to fly without using the belt extender.

Need to wrap this up because it is late.

OGG to SEA

It was fast going through security at Kahului Airport, not used to the speed.

On the plane now doing a quick post before taking off.

It is nearly 3 PM Hawaii time, should reach Seattle ar midnight PST.

Spend the morning checking out Lahaina and visiting my old high school.

More to post tomorrow. Also due to TZ will reach after midnight.

Will do push-ups and situps when I get home.

Still Hanging Out On Molokai

Got a lot done today, really tired.

We accomplished a lot today but I really feel like there is a long way to go.

Dirty Like Camping

Been helping my mom clean up her home today.

A lot of work needed to be done, but there is still a lot of beauty here so it is worth it so we persevere.

Need to try and get fitbit.
