New NVR System Coming Online

I am very impressed with this new camera system unfortunately I don’t think CentOS 7 works with BT878.  But as far as horsepower, it has it, I found another 4GB bringing the total to 12GB.

This is a dual socket E5606 which has 4 cores a piece so 8 cores without hyperthreading.   The core speed is just 2.14GHz but it doesn’t seem to be breaking a sweat.

With memory and CPU I have room to expand, for RAM I think I can go up to 48GB maybe more.  For CPU I can up the core speed and core count by going to E5650 or if I really wanted to kick it I can go to E5660 or X5675 which is 6 cores at 3.06Ghz.

Hard drive space may be an issue, for now I will boot off a 256G SSD with mysql on it.  Data will sit on a 3TB Sata and Video will go on a 4TB Sata.  If I give up the DVD drive I can add another 3.5″ disk but there is space for 3 more 2.5″ drives but only 1 connector left.

I think this will be good core, but I also got my PoE switch working.  It is just 100Mbit but it has 2 Gig uplink ports, one can go to the network the other to the server.

It is loud though.
