Seahawk 12k

Today was my first race of the year.  It was the Seattle 12k, I wish I did better, but the good news is this I ran this at a pace better than expected.

I was expecting my pace to be closer to the 12 minute mark.  I should not expect to be running a 10 minute mile at this stage of my training, but I was hoping to crack the 11 minute mark.  Still, my time is improving, so no complaints.

Weather was great, there was concern that it would be rainy, but it was not hot, not wet, and not windy.  The only complaint was that it was a little chilly in the morning but once we got moving and the day moved on, cold was not a concern.

The team I was running with was awesome, they are so fun, and supportive, I saw them at the end cheering me on and felt a boost in my legs.  I need a group of them at each mile point.

I felt like there were not enough Honey buckets throughout the course, still it was a 12k not a marathon and there were less people.

The water stations were placed in decent locations, no complaints there.  I did not hydrate during this race, maybe I should consider it.

The route had hills, kind of rolling hills but not very steep.  Seems like it would be good for interval training.  The view was alright.

When I got back, I felt this weird gritty feeling on my face, I thought it was just me but others that ran in my team that ran the 12k route said the same thing.

Overall it was a great primer for the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in 11 weeks.

Special kudo’s to Rachelynn, TJ, and Justin, they are minors that spent part of their weekend to run the 5k portion of this event.  Many of us are proud of you.

This is my weight after the run but before lunch but after the run.  Weird that it did not go down after a significant run like this.

Weight: 252.8
